Post Wish list for Graphical RobotC
Wish List #1: Simple Expression Block

This is actually rather important. Allow simple expressions for variables declaration/ initialization, and simple straight forward math work. Something like simple a puzzle block

to allow them to enter them, such as:

Code:
int tdia = 10;
float pi = 3.1416;
float encPerCm = 360 / (tdia * pi);

Without this capability, they could not do even simple exercises with converting encoder to distance and vice versa without constantly handwriting their math work. Well, they do need to do the math work at first for a while anyway. However, it would not be implemented in programs to handle variation during run time. Really not fun after a while.

Without this capability, most of the young folks who are advanced in math hit a hurdle.

You may say why not just move onto RobotC.. Well, for most 5 to 6 , they have no issue to handle ending an expression with ";", or write the simple math statements. The difficulty is to get the control structure correctly. Thus Graphical control structure IS PERFECT for these young ones!!!

They are simply still a bit young to master the {..} and “;” syntax. Yes, I have quite a handful of these kids.

Therefore, adding this Math block will allow these kids to exercise their analytical skill in programming the bot without being bogged down by acclimating with the syntax.

Wish List #2: Allow custom Bot configuration.

This will be extremely useful, especially for those who are working on a special setup all the time, such as competition bot. Definitely useful for an educational school setup.

Hope this will be considered to add in GRobotC soon! ... ( :) :) )

Just wonder if the wish list will be in the near horizon.

The custom bot configuration is a nice but does not stop these young ones to proceed with more interesting robotics project.

However, lack of variables capability has already limited the scale of their projects greatly. Many of our younger students are excellent and analytics and middle school level math, but still too young to get all the syntax and structure right if they have to hand type from scratch. Therefore, I am really hoping the math expressions/ variables capability will be available soon.
