Yes, I think someone tried it and had success, although I believe they had to download the NXT drivers. Personally I wouldn't do development on an experimental operating system, too many potential outside sources of error, to many chances for something to go wrong; but that's just me.

I tried to make it work in a VM with a 64bit version of RC1. The program works fine but the NXT USB driver didn't work, so no uploading was possible.

I might give it a whirl with a 32bit version later.

Regards,
Xander

If you were using a VM that might account for the driver troubles although the fact that it was the 64-bit might have something to do with it too. I think that NXTHacker was talking about actually using a PC with the Windows 7 Beta as the primary operating system.

Post Re: Does RobotC work with Windows 7?
Hi,

I have installed RC1/32 bit version on my computer on an elderly hard disk (that means this specific installation will not live long).

I have installed Robotc V1.47B
http://www.robotc.net/downloads/ROBOTCf ... 7_BETA.exe

and the 32 bit driver package published on the robotc lego downloads page and also here
http://www.robotc.net/content/lego_down ... driver.zip

The RobotC recognized the NXT brick on the second attempt (pressing "rescan"). Then I have updated Brick firmware to 761 (version available in the 1.47B Firmware subfolder). After the upgrade the NXT has been renamed from original NXT1 to SAMBA but it seemed to work. Then I have been kicked off the computer by the children. I will continue testing this evening (probably installing first W7RC1 on a bigger HDD and reinstalling 1.47B -- hopefully RobotC guys will tolerate the growin number repeated activations).

I have no experience with the 64 bit OS versions yet.

Laszlo

It's on my ToDo list to try and get it running sometime this week on a VM. If I have any success, I'll make sure to post a walkthrough on here. I can imagine that your level of success is what I'll run into, where ROBOTC will run, but the NXT drivers will be a different story since we just use the standard LEGO/Fantom drivers.

If you are trying Windows7 and need some more activations, shoot me an e-mail at support@robotc.net and I'll be sure to bump your activation count.

I am currently using Windows 7 RC 64bit (not on a virtual machine) and RobotC 1.4. I made a short test where I downloaded a new firmware to my NXT, tried to download a program by using both USB and BT and everything worked as a charm.

After adapting my code to the new version of joystic.c (I haven't been developing anything for the NXT for a year or so), I was steering the ESAWAY balancing bot with an XBOX360 controller in no time :)

I get the following error message:
"Could not initialize application. Error 42 (IPM)."

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Thanks,

That almost sounds like there are runtimes missing. You could try downloading and installing the Visual C++ Runtimes: 32-bit installer, or 64-bit installer, but I would assume that Windows 7 would be up to current specs in regards to runtimes.
