Post RobotC for NxT AND VEX on same computer
We are an FTC team, and have for the last month or so tried to learn RobotC VEX on our VEX units. Yesterday, when we finally got our FTC kit, we followed the directions to remove all RobotC installs and download v 1.46 from ftctraining.com. And further noticed that FTC Webinar 1 mentioned that RobotC for FTC and NxT are the same, since they both use the NxT brick, but RobotC for VEX is different. EasyC Pro let us define which platform we were working with, but one program worked for VEX or FRC. We'd like to still use the VEX stuff for practice etc, since we already have a significant installed base of kits and sensors. Our question is can we have RobotC for VEX on the same computer as RobotC for FTC/NxT?

thanks, Chuck

We have both the Lego and Vex versions of RobotC installed on the same computer. They do not conflict with each other.

Heads UP: I may have spoken too soon. After installing RobotC for Vex on a laptop that already had RobotC for LEGO installed we are having trouble getting the LEGO version to talk to the NXT by USB or Bluetooth. We are going try to resolve the issue today and I will post a followup.

You shouldn't have any issues at all from having both versions of ROBOTC installed on the same computer. Does it give you any errors when you try to download a program? Do you have all of the drivers installed for both platforms?

We had RobotC for LEGO version 1.46 installed and communicating with NXT via USB and Bluetooth.
We downloaded and installed the current version of RobotC for Vex which works fine.

After a couple days of working with the Vex bots we tried to use the LEGO version again and could not get it to talk to an NXT by either USB or Bluetooth. We did not have time to exhaustively test it but we did try rebooting and all of the normal quick fixes. We will be looking at it again this afternoon and will post a followup.

Sure, let me know how it goes. You should be able to go into the ROBOT > Link setup menu and make sure that you have your current NXT brick selected.
