Post subject:  Registry keys created on install?

*sigh* One would think that all necessary registry keys would be created upon install. Sadly no.

This then requires manually launching robotc as an admin. On EVERY MACHINE!!!!! seriously?

Does ANYONE have a regfile with the required keys? Or have a technique for creating one?

FWIW this makes dealing with this in a managed PC environment cumbersome. Please add this to the list of tasks done by the installer? K?

I'm going to assume from your previous posts complaining about ROBOTC's Installation Process that you are a Building License user.

ROBOTC configures all of the necessary registry settings when running the installer. This is because the installer requires elevated privileges, it silently launches ROBOTC to set up the initial group of registry settings.

I assume your issue is that once you place the building license file, you need to launch ROBOTC with elevated (Administrator) privileges. This is because Windows VISTA/7 has put tighter restrictions on writing to files inside of the "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" directory. There isn't much we can do about these restrictions, other than require the license file to live publicly accessible directory, which then causes its own issues with individuals being able to modify/delete the license file.

There's no way we can have the license file built into the installer as we then would have to generate an individual installer per user, which is an unreasonable amount of work seeing as we ship out about 2000+ building licenses a year and have only heard of maybe 2-3 complaints regarding this issue.

Being an IT Administrator (or at least responsible for installations), if you have suggestions on how to resolve this (other than saying "Have the installer do it") we would be happy to make modifications/updates to either ROBOTC or the documentation.
