Just wanted to chime in on this point:

I am totally not familiar with VEX IQ but from looking at the picture, it seems to have the same I2C connectors as the NXT Mindstorms. If they are really I2C ports, then it should be able to use all the Mindstorms sensors, shouldn't it?

It's hard to tell by looking at it, but the NXT and IQ cables are very similar with one difference; the clips are on opposite sides (right/left) of the cable and the two are not cross-compatible. Also, I do not know what the specific pinouts of the two cables are and if they are compatible at all; I wouldn't recommend mixing the two just to be safe (at least, not for now).

I believe function pointers are on "the list" for our dev team, but it is one of those things that's generally only used by a small (but important!) part of the ROBOTC user base, and may be taking a backseat to more critical issues at the moment. I'll look into it once we get back from break and see if I determine the status of its development.

I do have the pin out for the VEX IQ and they're not pin compatible. Also, apparently, the voltage on the Vout is battery voltage (7-9V) so you'd need some kind of voltage regulator on there or suffer the consequences :)

Darn, why do they do that? I suppose if they deliberately make it different, it must be NOT compatible.
