Post Bearing by th new Hitechnic IR Seeker 2
hi,
does anybody know if the new Hitechnic IR seeker 2 is able to detect and distinguish 3 or 4 IR beacons,
is it able to get bearings within 1° accuracy,
is it able to learn beacon IDs (e.g. ~~~.~~~.~~~ or ~.~.~.~. or ~~.~~.~~.~~ with 20 impulses each second),
or can it just read professional remote control codes?

Code:
         y
         ^
         |
         |        (1)
         |           .
         |             .
         |               .
         |                 .
         |                 nXt
         |                .    .
         |             .          .
         |           .               .
         |        (2)                 (3)
         |- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -> x

beacons (1), (2), (3) in an orthogonal vector room

No, it can detect a 600 and a 1200Hz signal and an unmodulated signal.

No, it divides its field of vision in 9 slices. The signal is coming from one slice or another or not at all.

Nope.

Nope. What you are looking for is an RC5 signal decoder.

The IR Seeker is mainly intended for RoboSoccer where there is generally only one IR beacon, namely the ball. For more information check out the product page: http://www.hitechnic.com/cgi-bin/commer ... ey=NSK1042

Xander

Xander, are you sure about the unmodulated part?

I checked the link you provided,
, and there it says that the sensor can detect modulated signals:

Of course they could be talking about something completely different from what Ford was asking, in which case never mind.

Yeah, very sure. It can detect unmodulated signals (DC) and modulated signals (AC). The unmodulated signal would be like a constant IR light source. The modulated signal is a 600 or 1200Hz signal on a 38KHz carrier frequency.

What Ford wants is a way to distinguish between multiple beacons. In other words, each beacon would emit a unique ID over IR and the sensor would then figure out the direction of these signals and use them to triangulate its position. There is currently no sensor made by HiTechnic or Mindsensors that can do this.

Regards,
Xander

Sorry, don't mind me. Just pointing out the obvious
