We're trying to used this infrared sensor: http://www.hitechnic.com/cgi-bin/commer ... ey=nir1032

However, we get an output of "0" pretty much no matter what. We don't have an infrared beacon, but we put it next to a heat lamp, and still got nothing out of it. I'm programming in RobotC, and this is the code I'm using to test it:

Code:
#pragma config(Sensor, S1,     Infrared,       sensorHiTechnicIRSeeker600)
//*!!Code automatically generated by 'ROBOTC' configuration wizard               !!*//

task main()
{
   while(1) {
      nxtDisplayCenteredTextLine(1,"Infrared: %d" ,sensorValue[Infrared]);
      wait1Msec(1);
   }
}

I tried both "600" and "1200", but I couldn't find any other sensors on the sensor menu. Does anyone know how to receive proper input from these sensors? Thanks for any help.

The sensor in your link is not the IR seeker. The IR seeker is this:

  1. You linked to the IRReceiver sensor, which, as noted on the page you linked, is designed to receive commands from one of the HiTechnic remote controls. You aren't using one of these remotes, so you won't get any response from the sensor
  2. If you want to track the IR beacons, you need this sensor: http://www.hitechnic.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=NSK1042 which tracks near-IR beacons. You might get a response from the heat lamp, but note that near-IR is different from thermal-IR (also called long wavelength IR) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infrared#Commonly_used_sub-division_scheme)
  3. If you want to detect heat, try this sensor: http://www.hitechnic.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=NIS1070

Thank you for your help!

So just to clarify, this sensor won't receive any input from the IR beacon that we can expect to find at the FTC Block Party event?

Correct, use the one that MHTS linked for FTC Block Party.
