Would it be possible to chain a sensor on to the end of the servo and motor controller chain?

I have asked RobotC about this, it is not possible.

It is not possible, unfortunately.

This is a limitation of the hardware, not the software.

OK thanks, and does anybody know #1, if the mindsensors port splitter is legal and 2, how to program it?

No, the mindsensors port splitter is not a legal part for this year's FTC tournament. However, you should post questions about the tournament rules to http://forums.usfirst.org/forumdisplay.php?f=26. It is the only place you can get official answers to those kinds of questions.

Not entirely. It is legal to create custom sensors with the HiTechnic NXT Prototype Board which you can find on the Products of their web site: http://hitechnic.com/

There are quite a few things you can do with it but you will want to read all of the related posts in the FTC Forum to make sure that you work within the official rules.
