Post Need help downloading the ROBOTC Firmware
our hub did not provide us with the serial - usb cable. I see at the end of the video that the robotC firmware can be loaded via the usb A-A cable, but when I try I get the following error:

"Bootload failed: Controller to respond to autobaud sequence during firmware bootload.

This indicates that the Cortex CPU is not properly communicating with the VEXNET system. The most common cause is VEXNET system failure or an obsolete version of VEXNET firmware. There were some interim buggy versions of VEXNET firmware that consistently caused this message -- try loading the latest VEXNET firmware on both the VEX Game Controller and the VEX Cortex controller"

I have followed the steps for loading the master cpu firmware as well as the game controller firmware, both seem to update just fine. I have a new battery on board and still the same result. Are there different step required with the usb A-A cable only?

Thanks,
Ben

A few things to try...

Do you have the most recent version of ROBOTC (2.25?)? http://www.robotc.net/download/cortex/

We've learned that some PC USB ports have intermittent trouble maintaining a connection with the Cortex. Enabling message tracing in ROBOTC helps maintain that communication. You can find instructions for enabling message tracing on the last two pages of this document: http://www.education.rec.ri.cmu.edu/products/teaching_robotc_cortex/setup/sample/download_sample.pdf

We had that same problem. We did the message tracing fix, but that only worked part of the time. Turns out, our USB A-A cable wasn't hitting all of the contacts on the Cortex. We just held it in with a little metal shunt and it worked perfectly.
