I was running the "Palm Island" virtual world on my DELL studio 15, 4GB RAM, 2.4GHz, 64bit, Windows 7.
My laptop's battery was almost dying out, which I didn't notice, I was calculating the delay for the robot to take turns and then it worked fine for the first trial and when I plugged in my laptop for charge, the Robot sped quicker than before(for the same delay). I understand that it is because of the processor's speed, but is this the real problem or is there any work around for this?

What's probably happening is that your processor is set to slow down when your battery is low and/or when it's unplugged from the AC adapter. This is often controlled in the BIOS of your computer, which you can access when it first starts up.

Windows power management can be set to to this.
Click on the power icon in your task bar:

Now select a power plan (I usually have mine set to Balanced) and click "Change plan settings" and on the next screen click "Change Advanced Power Settings"
Scroll down in the list and check what the processor settings are:

In any case, you can also set the power plan to "High Performance" which is great for performance, obviously, but quite sucky for battery life. That's why I have it set to Balanced, which works quite nicely.

I tried to build a couple of demo programs for a class that I was teaching. I programmed them on a airplane with my laptop unplugged. There is definately a big difference in performance when your computer is plugged in verses not plugged in.

This kind of makes sense because your computer is trying to save resources while in the unplugged mode.

If you put the laptop on the "High Performance" power plan, you should not notice any performance drop. You will notice a significant battery life drop, though
