Hrmm, that is an Atmega168, which is -really- limited in terms of flash and RAM. I think if you de-soldered the 168 and put on the 328, you should be fine (not sure you want to do that, though). Why not grab one of these instead: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/11113, you have a much better chance of that working, plus it's cheaper. You'll have to solder on your own legs, of course.

I am pretty sure that an FTDI dongle wouldn't be the issue, so one of those other bare-bones Arduino types would probably work fine.

I was planning on using the Arduino Mini in a rocket and it was small enough for it i havent tried but i could just use it as normal?

I have an Arduino Nano-based board that is running ROBOTC just fine. It has an FTDI chip and USB socket on the board, so a bit like a built-in dongle.

Just make sure the ATMega is a 328 and not something smaller.

I am confused. According to the website & docs, RobotC can run on a Duemilanove which is an ATmega168. I don't have one to test with.

The 2009 can come in a 168 and 328 variant. You might be right in that it will run on the 168 after all.
From http://arduino.cc/en/Main/arduinoBoardDuemilanove :
Quote:
The Arduino Duemilanove ("2009") is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega168 (datasheet) or ATmega328 (datasheet).

It would severely limit the amount of software you could put on it, though. I will verify with the devs.

Ok, peeps, the word on the streets is, ok, fine, the devs told me the following:
Quote:
Firmware is too big to run on a 168 - it clocks in at about 21kb. Minimum requirements of a 328 to run, unfortunately.

ROBOTC will run on a Diecimilaboard (which used to have a 168) with a replacement 328 chip with the Arduino bootloader burned on it - some places sell these with the upgrade: http://www.adafruit.com/products/123

So it's as I suspected.

Try The Uno or 2009 one :) You can't really harm it by picking the wrong one :)
