 Re: gp2d120 sensor type?
Just another attempt to make schematics, PCB and a photo, available to all. It would be nice to display them here, but...

 Re: gp2d120 sensor type?
I've Got it ! Sending the files as attachments, allows their display, afterall!
Thanks for the suggestion. Paulo

 Re: gp2d120 sensor type?
Hey, thanks for the pictures!
In re. to if it would work with an RCX, not directly. You would need to use the 4 standard diodes that non-passive RCX sensors need (so that the connection can be in either orientation).

 Re: gp2d120 sensor type?
So, other than that, it could be configured as a normal passive sensor?

 Re: gp2d120 sensor type?
Sure, if it's an analogue sensor, it's usable on the RCX - Xander

 Re: gp2d120 sensor type?
On the RCX? Yes. EDIT: I mean, as far as using it on the RCX. It certainly isn't a passive analog sensor.
If the RCX was able to source more current on it's sensor ports, it'd be possible to also power it using power from the RCX (as an active sensor).

 Re: gp2d120 sensor type?
Xander, for polarity sensitive analog sensors you do need to use the diodes though.

 Re: gp2d120 sensor type?
I just took an (un)educated guess I bypassed the whole RCX era and went straight to NXT. I figured since it was analogue, the RCX would know what to do with it. I learned something new today and it's not even 07:00 yet! - Xander

 Re: gp2d120 sensor type?
But here it's being powered by a external battery, isn't it? If not, than what's the "5V" at the bottom right corner?

 Re: gp2d120 sensor type?
Exactly. I was saying that if the RCX sensor ports could source enough current, it could instead be powered by the RCX (thus eliminating the need for an external power source).
@Xander, if the RCX connectors were only able to connect one way, then it could be done directly. The way the RCX connectors are designed, they can be in any of 4 physical orientations, and 2 electrical orientations. The diodes sort of cancel out the reverse aspect of the electrical connection when in the wrong orientation.

Ah, okay. That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure.
