Is there a way to turn off the noise the compiler makes when you are compiling a program and there are errors? I have looked through the expert preferences menus and can't find it. I've never had a compiler do that before. I can mute my computer but that's not a great solution.

Mine doesn't do that so I am guessing, but have you tried the windows sound preferences in windows control panel?

I was doubtful at your suggestion, but indeed RobotC plays a "Critical Stop" sound which can be changed or silenced in the Control Panel. I guess I can still think playing this sound is a bad idea, but I will consider this a successful work around. So thanks for the help.

Considering a compile error is a fairly critical error when you are trying to write software, I think the sound is warranted. You could write a mail to support@robotc.net to ask if it can be made into a preference thing. Personally, I would like the voice of HAL to say "I'm sorry Dave, I can't let you do that." whenever I get a compile error.

You must be a better typist that me. I wouldn't mind a pleasant sound when I don't have a compile error. I just expect after making some changes I'll have missed an bracket, or misspell a variable. So I would never assume that my compile is successful and always check for messages.

We have several menu levels, Basic, Expert and Super User, so why not "Insecure Noobie" with sounds like "Oh, look at you! No compile errors, well done! I'm so proud of you!" and "It's ok, honey, I'm sure you'll get it working!". For the more advanced programmers there's "Condescending Guru", which is more like "Finally, I was beginning to wonder if you were ever going to get this right." and "Haha, idiot!".

What do you think? I'm setting mine to Insecure Noobie; I have a very fragile ego.
