 new EV3
Guys,
I am new to that exciting stuff and wanted a long time ago to get the mindstorm robot and start learning RobotC programming (I am an electrical engineer so I have some background on that). I just did not find the time for that... Now I got some time and wanted to get myself a unit, I just see that the EV3 is planned to come very shortly (or not?). So my question to you guys - should I wait for it? Actually my main concern is if the rebotC will be avaialbe and mature enough together with the hardware availability.
I don't want to start using this machine with any other language. RobotC looks exiting.
Please advice. Thanks, Amit

 Re: new EV3
Hi Amit, The EV3 is scheduled to launch "after the summer", so it all depends on how long you're willing to wait. As with all new platforms, there may be some early bugs in the system, but I doubt Robomatter will release some half-baked IDE on the market I can't speak for the Robomatter dev team, so I can't give you a yes or no, whether ROBOTC will be available at launch time, so perhaps drop them a mail at support@robotc.net and point them to this thread and ask them to respond here, so others will also be able to find that info. = Xander

 Re: new EV3
Hi Xander
thanks for your answer. I did sent a mail to the support. lets see what they have to say. I believe that since I waited until now it seems reasonable to wait a bit more and get the next platform. From your experience with the previous NXT, does the H/W will be final or they can come up quickly with an updated brick (did it happen in the past?). Not everything can be fixed in S/W patches.

 Re: new EV3
The hardware is already final and has been for some time. I do not think anything will change. The NXT brick has not changed in any significant way since its initial release, although there has been at least one revision, but that may have had more to do with certain parts no longer being available.

 Re: new EV3
AFAIK the only revision made was when they removed the LCD daughter board.

 Re: new EV3
Xander, I see that the EV3 is already available in ebay. See: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-LEGO-31313 ... 3a82695575it is for ~800$. Does it make sense? I see only that seller in Hungary to have it. Is this going to be the official price? Still I would like to have it only after getting robotC support for it. As I understand it is not there yet. Correct? Thanks, Amit

 Re: new EV3
The official price for the retail set is $349.99. I'm guessing that that guy has, for some reason, a few pre-production sets which will most likely not be the same thing that we'll be getting when it officially comes out.

 Re: new EV3
There are no pre-production units for sale of the EV3, I can assure you. If it's in the box, it's a unit that was given to someone to use for themselves, not to sell. I've notified LEGO of this.
I have a box but LEGO would have my hide if I ever sold it.

 Re: new EV3
Well, what builder do we know in Hungary who's good enough to get three EV3s...

 Re: new EV3
LEGO was already aware of this guy. Their legal and marketing departments are dealing with it. Poor guy.

Crap. One was sold before he took it down.

LEGO Edu says they're shipping the preorders for the Edu version in August.
