Yep. Here is a picture of both the Communication Link Setup, as well as the error: (Yes, the NXT is on, even though RobotC suggests turning it on)

Try connecting to the NXT via USB, and then try wi-fi again. While you're at it, run samostat.rxe and see what it says.

I've been using USB as a regular connection. Samostat gives me my I.P. address.

Are you still having this issue? If you aren't, you should post what you did to fix it--in case somebody else has the same problem, or you do. ;)

Nice xkcd reference :) I had a similar problem, in which choosing "USB, Bluetooth, or Wifi" was not even an option in my communication link settings. If it helps, I went to View > Preferences > Detailed Preferences... and changed the platform type to LEFO NXT + TETRIX/MATRIX. Then I was able to choose "USB, Bluetooth, or Wifi" and RobotC found my brick attached to the SAMANTHA module.

I'm having this same issue: the FCS can see the NXT through the Samantha module using the WiFI, but RobotC refuses to connect.

samostat runs fine on the NXT and the IP address is shows is 192.168.2.162 and the status page at that IP shows I have version 2.02 firmware.

The Communication Link Setup shows the correct IP address for the brick, but says its not available (same screen snap as previous post).

How was this issue resolved for the previous posters?

I'm using The Matrix system (not TETRIX), and with this system, it is recommended to power the Samantha module with a 9V battery.
http://www.usfirst.org/sites/default/fi ... Matrix.pdf
The FCS reports that this is a low battery condition, but still connects fine. Could that be causing RobotC to think that the brick is not working?

Also I should mention that RobotC can connect to the NXT via Bluetooth and USB.

Also, updating the USB drivers like one person suggested did not help. And again, the FCS connects up fine.

There's a separate battery pack for the Samantha when you use Matrix, isn't there? Are you using that? I think I read about that somewhere.

The FIRST site recommends using a 9V battery for powering Samantha when using Matrix (see link in my earlier post).
The checklist mentions a battery holder for Samantha power when using Matrix, so I assume this means some kind of holder for the 9V.

We are having the same issue with Matrix and the Samantha. We have been trying with a 9V as well. The game manual actually states that a Matrix Battery Box is OK but I can't find anything like that in the Matrix products. Have you found a solution to this problem?

Post Re: WiFi issues
We can confirm there is a problem specifically with RobotC and WiFi.

We have no problems connecting to the Samantha module either to browse the Samantha web page or with the FCS. We are able to use the FCS with WiFi to run the robot.

Connecting with RobotC on the exact same platform is a no-go.

The message log complains about WiFi firmware being out of date.

As we've used this same firmware in a couple of Meets this season, we suspect that the problem is on the RobotC side (version 3.62) rather than on the robot or Samantha side.

Are you using Windows 8? I have been experiencing similar issues from time to time on a Windows 8 computer, but never had problem with Windows 7. I am suspecting it is a Robotc-Windows 8 related problem.

I accidentally discovered a workaround which worked most of the times: instead of going through "communication link setup" which doesn't get you anywhere, try "Compile and Download Program or F5" instead. It might work.

It looks like the issue is that your Samantha module firmware is out of date - using the Fantom/Samantha module system requires a specific firmware version

7649.913 Open Link via WiFi Only
7649.915 Deferred close connections to NXT brick
7649.923 Opening connection to NXT brick at WIFI::7294::192.168.43.145
7653.956 ...Created NXT handle for 'WIFI::7294::192.168.43.145' FAILED (xFFFDD421/-142303) 'NXT FW Err: 'WiFi Firmware Out of Date''

You can upgrade your samantha module by following the directions here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hh8YUswtTss
And find the firmware file you'll need in the ROBOTC directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Robomatter Inc\ROBOTC Development Environment\Firmware\Samantha.hex

Post Re: WiFi issues
I had all the same issues as above.

The Samantha unit functions fine with the FCS software, but trying to pair it with RobotC was a no go. The "Not Avail" message, and the WiFi Firmware out of date message (even though the samantha module is at 2.02..

On a whim I disabled AVAST (freeware Antivirus Software) - and viola, it worked quickly and as it should. specifically disable the web shield. I quickly tried and exclusion or such for the wifi router/network, but no luck there. Seems like some sort of RobotC Avast incompatibility.

Windows 7, RobotC 3.62, FW 9.68. Linksys WRT54G running DD-wrt. During the RobotC connection step of scanning for devices, the symptoms are you get a "not Avaliable" message under the brick name even though it shows up in the address list. A popup window also says it it not communicating and you may need to press the red button etc... in the Message window of RobotC there are "NXT FW Err: WiFi Firmware is out of date "

the Samatha module web interface shows the 2.02 sept 9 2011 firmware.

Anyway, if you go to avast, disable the web shields, everything works without a hitch. (edit - buried under the web shield settings you can add "RobotC.exe" to the exclusion list, and you won't have to disable every session, or the complete web shield.)

There are several posts around the web with similar problems. My laptops get used with the field and on the internet, so I'm not sure what a good workaround for this is short of dedicating laptops to the RobotC/FCS environment, but that's not easy for searching for example programs, cutting and pasting in the notebook etc.

----

Same problems with my XP laptops, no AVAST there... After a couple days fiddling, it works, not sure what happened. FWIW, apparently FCS uses a direct TCPIP connection, and RobotC works 'via NI Provided "Fantom" interface library '
